A map is supposed to keep a ship out of trouble. In The Captain’s False Map, it may be the very thing steering you into it.
Episode 1 is our pirate mystery game, created with ChatGPT and Codex for The Click Test. You explore a captain’s cabin, a signal room and a hidden cove, connecting clues across nine puzzles. There is no timer rushing you toward an answer. The sea can wait while you think.
A pirate mystery in three locations
Your investigation begins among weathered charts, brass instruments and a secured sea chest. Something about the captain’s route does not add up. Examining the evidence gives you the next lead, and each discovery helps explain another part of the mystery.
The captain’s cabin

Compare records, examine navigation instruments and investigate what the captain left behind.
The signal room

Work through private codes, lantern signals and messages whose claims deserve a closer look.
The hidden cove

Follow the evidence ashore and investigate the island’s stone mechanisms.
This overview leaves the solutions out. Finding the connections is the game.
Built for a comfortable pace
We wanted the details to feel like an old maritime mystery: aged wood, tarnished brass, muted light and ocean beyond the windows. Readable controls sit alongside the illustrated scenes, and text-size buttons let you choose a more comfortable size.
A flashing NEXT STEP label points you toward the current task without selecting the answer for you. Optional hints offer another nudge. Recovered evidence stays in the journal and inventory, so you can revisit it when a later puzzle brings an earlier clue back into focus.
Ocean motion, waves, distant gulls, creaking ship timbers and a quiet musical background help set the scene. Music, ambience and item effects have separate controls; the main Sound button mutes them all.
How to start investigating
- Choose an object in the scene or investigation panel.
- Read its clues and examine the available controls.
- Try your idea. The game tells you whether the evidence fits.
- Follow the next lead, or return to your journal when you need a reminder.

Created with ChatGPT, shaped by human feedback
ChatGPT and Codex helped develop the game, its puzzle logic and its interface. The artwork was generated with AI, and the supplied music and ship ambience were created with Suno. Human review guided the revisions to the visuals, readability, navigation and sound.
Episode 1 begins a continuing story. The planned next chapter is The Sunken Fort; Episode 2 is not available yet.
