Affinity Fixes Extra AI Images and Windows Saving Hangs

Affinity’s October build 4940 corrects Seedream’s four-variation default and addresses saving hangs. Here’s what changed, plus the limits of its layer-editing AI.

Asked for one AI image and ended up with four? Affinity’s October update corrects Seedream’s unwanted four-variation default. It also addresses saving hangs—useful fixes for creators who need to finish an edit and keep working.

What changed—and why it matters

Affinity’s official release notes describe three practical corrections:

  • Seedream output: generation should default to one variation instead of four.
  • Windows saving: a fix for the app hanging while saving a document.
  • Batch exports: a fix for “Save as Affinity File” leaving files open in the background, which could leave recovery or lock files behind and cause a hang.

The notes identify October 2026 and build 4940, without a specific release day. They do not establish a per-image saving or a jump in image quality. Before your next generation, check the selected model and output count.

Still worth knowing: a flat image can become editable layers

There is a bigger creative feature alongside this maintenance news: Decompose Layer. Announced as Scene Decomposition on September 15, 2026, it separates a flattened picture into editable parts. That could help when a campaign image needs a change and the layered original is missing.

The important limit: AI fills in areas hidden behind objects. It does not recover the exact pixels or original layers from a lost file. Work on a duplicate layer, then inspect cutout edges and newly revealed areas before using the result.

Free app, paid AI access

Affinity’s core editing tools are free. Canva AI Studio features require an eligible Canva premium plan. Affinity’s AI usage guide lists Decompose Layer as an online feature in its Ultra tier, drawing from the monthly AI allowance shared with Canva.

That means installing the desktop app alone does not unlock this AI workflow for free. You need an eligible signed-in account and an internet connection. Check your plan and allowance before running it; we have not verified an exact price, model-specific deduction or account-level availability.

Our take: existing Affinity users have a practical reason to review this update, especially if saving has been interrupting their work. The layer feature deserves a separate look when you already have eligible AI access, with reconstructed details checked carefully.
